The skirt you'll be wearing on repeat
Classic midi, cult following, limited stock, now on sale.
I've long admired the stylist Nicole Bonython-Hines. Her impeccable taste combined with her unwavering support of local designers has made her a respected figure in Australia's fashion industry. I adored her work at Cleo magazine when she was fashion director. She produced some of the most iconic and memorable covers in Australian mag history, and her shoots with Kylie Minogue are the stuff of legend.
So, it's no surprise that I follow Nicole on Instagram. Her posts are a treasure trove of style inspiration, not just for her incredible wardrobe and latest fashion buys, but also for her hilarious commentary on her daughter Ava Matthews' fashion choices. Ava is the founder of excellent sunscreen brand Ultra Violette and her bold and playful style contrasts beautifully with Nicole's pared-back elegance. Their dynamic is endlessly entertaining.
When Nicole shared her latest fashion find a couple of months ago – the Note skirt by Jac and Jack – I stopped scrolling and sat up. This beautifully crafted piece is the epitome of effortless elegance. Designed with a high waist and mid-calf length, it features flared panel seams and a crinoline hemline that nods to (genius) Victorian-era craftsmanship while feeling entirely modern. The result is a timeless A-line silhouette that's as versatile as it is sophisticated.
And did I mention that it has pockets? Whether styled for work or beyond, it's the kind of piece that seamlessly transitions between occasions and seasons (I know there’s a 50/50 split in my readership between northern and southern hemisphere readers, so versatility is key!).
I love how Nicole paired the Aquis skirt with a brown silk sleeveless top for an understated look, and a knit jumper for cooler days. Given Jac and Jack's reputation for exceptional knitwear, one of their cashmere sweaters would be an excellent investment to round out this look. The Perkins cotton cashmere sweater is the kind of piece you’ll reach for year after year. It’s lightweight enough for those in-between days and perfect for layering as the seasons shift.
The Note skirt comes in three versatile colourways: classic black (now sold out), crispy ivory ("Pillo"), and a vibrant turquoise (Aquis) that adds an unexpected pop of colour. It's an investment piece that promises to become a wardrobe staple.
But here’s the really good news: the Note cotton midi skirt is now on sale. (I know! Run, don’t walk.) If you’re quick, you can still nab one in the other beautiful shades. This is one of those pieces that will quietly elevate everything in your wardrobe, whether you pair it with a crisp shirt for work, a slouchy knit on weekends, or simply a tee or tank top for easy, breezy summer style. Speaking of summer staples, Jac and Jack’s Lunch cotton midi dress is also on sale right now. If you’re hunting for the perfect classic black dress for the warmer months – something you can throw on and instantly look put-together – this is it. Simple, timeless, and endlessly wearable.
While you’re there, check out the Creed organic cotton skirt (yes, also on sale!). It’s another Jac and Jack gem, cut from organic cotton and designed with that signature relaxed polish the brand does so well. I love how it manages to feel both easy and elevated – a rare feat in the world of summer skirts.
Honestly, Jac and Jack’s entire range of classic skirts, shirts, and pants is worth a look, especially if you’re building a work wardrobe. Their pieces are beautifully made, thoughtfully designed, and have that elusive quality of feeling both current and timeless.
In the picture above, I’m wearing the Note skirt with a Jac and Jack sweater for a tonal look (sadly, that particular sweater has now sold out – proof that good things really do go fast). But the beauty of these pieces is how effortlessly they work together, creating that understated, tonal elegance I’m always chasing.
Let me know if you snap up any of these sale treasures – I love hearing about your finds!
